West Broad: German Gourmet
February 11, 2022Getting bored of your go-to grocery store and want to mix it up with a little international flavor? Make a trip to German Gourmet this week. Since its inception in the 1960s, this shop has been family-owned and operated by a few German and Swiss families who aspire to share their heritage and culture with the D.C. area. Now, it’s run by two brothers who are passionate about culinary and business, which shines through the unique offerings!
They offer a sandwich menu daily from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. For breakfast, try the Farmer’s Sunrise Sandwich to wake up. It features fried egg and tomato with a Swiss potato roesti and butterkäse cheese which is a cow’s milk cheese from Germany. For lunch, grab a German potato salad with an Alpine cheese melt sandwich or a Schnitzel cutlet with remoulade. While you’re at the store, pick up Haribo gummies, German wines, Swiss chocolate, German cold cuts, Swiss cheeses, and a variety of imported snacks and grocery staples. A fun spot to just pop in and browse to see what strikes your fancy!
